I) The definition of an anti-aging active ingredient and its importance
An active ingredient is a substance integrated into your beauty treatments: cream, mask, oil, etc. to give it a particular action and/or benefit. So, an anti-aging active ingredient is an ingredient capable of fighting against the visible signs of skin aging.
Over time, our skin loses its elasticity and firmness, and fine lines and wrinkles begin to appear. From the age of 25, the production of collagen and elastin, proteins essential to the youthfulness of our skin, decreases, leading to a lack of firmness.
Anti-aging active ingredients therefore fight against this phenomenon: they help prevent or reduce the signs of skin aging (wrinkles, fine lines, loss of firmness or elasticity, spots, etc.). In fact, their actions consist of compensating for this drop by stimulating the production of proteins (collagen and elastin) while protecting the skin from damage caused by free radicals. This is why it is advisable to start preventing the appearance of the first wrinkles from your twenties.
In addition, anti-aging active ingredients, such as Hyaluronic Acid, maintain skin hydration, promoting effective cell renewal and reducing the signs of aging. The appearance of fine lines and wrinkles is therefore reduced and the skin appears more supple and smoother. They have it all!
These active ingredients are suitable for all skin types, however, it is necessary to adapt the active ingredients according to the needs of your skin. For dry skin, you should favor hydrating anti-aging active ingredients, light and non-comedogenic anti-aging active ingredients for oily skin and gentle and soothing anti-aging active ingredients for sensitive skin. Everyone is benefiting.
II) The different anti-aging active ingredients and their actions
A. Hyaluronic acid
We no longer present it, a true source of hydration for the skin, Hyaluronic Acid is capable of retaining up to 1000 times its weight in water, which makes it an ally of choice for plumping the skin and smoothing wrinkles and dehydration lines. In addition to this, it helps maintain the tone of the skin by ensuring suppleness and firmness. It acts as a protective barrier against external aggression. It is an active ingredient particularly recommended for dry skin.
B. Retinol
Retinol is the latest star of anti-aging active ingredients. Derived from vitamin A, it can be obtained from plant or synthetic sources. Originally, retinol was widely used to treat acne due to its anti-inflammatory properties. Subsequently, researchers discovered its powerful anti-aging effects on the skin, which made it one of the most studied and used active ingredients in cosmetic care products. It stimulates cell renewal and smoothes skin texture. In addition, it helps increase the production of collagen and elastin, for visibly younger skin. However, it can cause irritation: it should therefore be avoided for sensitive skin.
C. Ribose
This sugar, naturally present in our body and in all living cells, is often used as an active ingredient for its energizing and regenerating properties. It is usually obtained through bioengineering methods from natural sources such as corn or cane sugar. Thanks to its abilities to stimulate cellular metabolism and promote the production of ATP (adenosine triphosphate, the main source of energy used by cells), ribose is appreciated for its revitalizing effects on the skin, thus contributing to a younger and more dynamic appearance.
In anti-aging care, it therefore acts as a cellular energy booster, which allows the skin to regenerate more effectively. Thanks to this, the production of collagen and elastin is stimulated and therefore the skin is firmer and more toned.
D. Myrtle Leaf Extract
Rich in antioxidants, it is a powerful ally in the fight against the signs of skin aging thanks to its action on free radicals. It thus protects the skin from external aggressions and restores its radiance. Non-comedogenic, this active ingredient is recommended for oily skin.
E. Brown Algae Extract
Brown Algae is rich in vitamins and minerals essential to the health of our skin. Their hydrating and regenerating actions make them the ingredients of choice to fight against skin aging by boosting the elasticity and suppleness of the skin. This ingredient stimulates the synthesis of collagen and hyaluronic acid, which naturally firms the skin. As with the previous active ingredient mentioned, this ingredient is non-comedogenic and therefore recommended for oily skin.
III) Anti-aging treatments for firmer skin
Now that we have reviewed the different anti-aging active ingredients and their actions, it is time to discuss how to integrate them into our skincare routine for optimal results.
For an effective anti-aging routine, you must combine both short-term and long-term action with a day cream and a night cream.
In this specific case, the choice of your care is mainly determined by your age.
From the age of 25 , we advise you to opt for prevention products, which will hydrate your skin and protect it against external aggressions in order to reduce the imbalance between free radicals and antioxidants, responsible for skin aging. For this, we have developed an expert preventive range, acting against the first signs of aging: Musalis. Apply our Musalis Smoothing Day Cream every morning which is based on the synergy of Hyaluronic Acid, Ribose and Myrtle Leaf Extract. It helps hydrate and protect your skin throughout the day. In the evening, use Musalis Smoothing Night Cream, also rich in Hyaluronic Acid, to smooth your skin. Thanks to its intense action all night long, it offers you long-term results.
From the age of 40, we recommend treatments that reduce the visible signs of aging (wrinkles, fine lines). For this, we have developed our Musalift range. Hyaluronic Acid and its firming action are present in our Lifting Day and Night Cream duo to effectively reduce wrinkles and promote cell renewal. Just like the Musalis range, it involves applying the Lifting Day Cream for an immediate tightening effect which firms and protects your skin all day long. While the Lifting Night Cream, enriched with Brown Algae Extract, has a long-term restorative and anti-aging action.
Finally, remember that consistency is key. Anti-aging active ingredients do not work overnight, but with regular use. From prevention to mitigation, you'll start to see significant results over time. Up to you !
