In the shoes of Anthony Vincent, passionate beauty journalist

In his bathroom, the passionate journalist tells about his daily life, his morning and evening beauty routine, his best tip for beautiful skin, and what gives him the banana!

Would you like to introduce yourself?

My name is Anthony, I am 25 years old, and I am a freelance journalist in Paris. I write for different media always with the same obsession: the notions of constructing identity and representations. This leads me to write about contemporary art as well as fashion and beauty. In October 2018, with my colleague Douce Dibondo, we created the independent podcast Extimité which gives voice to minorized people, because of their skin color, their gender identity, sexual, or even their physical or mental condition. .

Did you always know that you wanted to work in this environment?

As a teenager, I dreamed of being a literature teacher. I was quietly pursuing literature studies for this purpose when I was caught up in an internship for a literary program on France 3. I immediately understood that journalism was an exciting profession, but on the verge of extinction. That by jumping from Gutenberg to Mark Zuckerberg so brutally, the profession had not been able to reinvent itself and that it was becoming precarious at great speed. I am often told that I am a jack-of-all-trades, whereas in reality is just the only way to carve out a place and a feather in this precarious environment. Where only the most passionate survive.

What is your typical day like?

Since I work from home, the challenge is to discipline myself so that I don't spend my days in bed. So I hold my professional appointments and interviews early in the morning. In the afternoon, I go home to write my articles or take care of Extimite. In the evenings, I now prefer conferences to the social events of openings.

What's your morning routine?

I wake up naturally between 7 am and 8 am, listening to podcasts while I emerge. The only slightly “healthy” thing I eat is in the morning: oatmeal and almond milk with a mashed banana, cinnamon and nutmeg. I make myself a liter of green tea, drink a cup and take the rest for the day in a thermos. Then I go to the bathroom, dress all in black or navy on a happy day, and take on the city.

What are you doing in the bathroom?

I wash my face with Kadalys Cleansing Gel, which I find super gentle. I used to love cleansers that left “squeaky clean”, squeaky skin. But I came to realize that this was just the best way to make my already oily skin even more oily. Every third day, I then use Oh My Cream exfoliating powder in the vain hope that my large pores will disappear one day. After cleansing, I spray myself with floral water, then I apply the Musalis Serum to prevent the appearance of wrinkles. I let it calmly penetrate while I brush my teeth, then I put the mattifying gel of State Pure. Finally, I heat a pump of Precious Nutrient Oil in my hands before running them over my beard. I intentionally protrude on the cheekbones for a bit of well-placed shine. Glow must go on! I love its light woody, citrus and patchouli scent, which reminds me of my home island, Martinique.

And the night ?

For the face, I follow the Cleansing Gel, the Clarifying Lotion, the Musalis Serum, then the Night Cream from this same first wrinkle range. Once a week, I swap the cleanser for the Exfoliating Peel and then the Purifying Mask, especially if I invite friends over because these are the most photogenic treatments I've ever seen! Often when you think of natural skincare products you expect them to be unpleasant to use, but with Kadalys it's quite the opposite. The peel smells more of citrus, and goes from pearly white to iridescent green, which is quite surprising. As for the clay mask, it is more reminiscent of monoi with its notes of Ylang and Tiare flower. Otherwise, I am one of that misunderstood species of people who shower in the evening rather than in the morning. My atopic skin has a lot of eczema, so I use Coslys hypoallergenic shower oil or surgras shower gel from drugstore, then I spread myself liberally with Cattier nourishing body milk. In winter, elbows, knees, and feet are even entitled to a dab of pure shea butter. I usually spend my summers in Martinique where I can just put a little Kadalys Nutritive Precious Oil on the driest areas of the body.

Rather the type to see the tube of cream half empty or half full?

Half full of emptiness? In any case, I never wait until it is finished to redeem myself. You always have to be resourceful.

What gives you bananas every day?

My 4 month old nephew. Who doesn't have problems with large pores yet, at least him. Pastries. And my friends, of course, for whom I love to cook by the way. My remedy for melancholy is to offer them a sleepover to bake together and make masks, to do good inside and out.

If you had a beauty tip for us, what would it be?

To take care of her face in the sink and her body in the shower. Because while the skin of the body easily tolerates very hot water, the face cannot. Unless you have the courage to shower in cold water, it is better to wash your face in the sink, and cold to benefit from the tightening effect of this temperature. You can even take the opportunity to apply a mask, then leave it on while you shower to increase the effects thanks to the steam that dilates the pores. It's all about optimization.

How did you know Kadalys?

The founder, Shirley Billot, was a guest on an episode of Beauty Toaster, a podcast about wellness and the beauty industry that I love. Today, if all the new brands claim to be natural in order to be fashionable, this for once was not marketing polish but a 360 ° C ambition. She told about her desire to promote the West Indian pharmacopoeia through studies and patents, to promote waste from the banana industry, to integrate farmers into the success of the brand, and to legitimize its eco-responsibility up to responsibly designed packaging. In addition, Shirley Billot held a rare, because honest, speech on the issues of “organic” labels. By meeting the strict requirements of the COSMEBIO and ECOCERT charter, Kadalys is asserting itself as a resolutely organic brand, and not just to look pretty on the label. It all convinced me to order, and I've been hooked ever since.
